Trauma Registry Analyst – Remote (or hybrid on-site)
A Brief Overview
Performs review of clinical records and updates patient registry data following established criteria, standards and reporting requirements. Collects, analyzes, and reports registry information to applicable accrediting organization and/or agency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in nursing, health information management, or related field (i.e., healthcare administration, operations management, etc.) Required
- RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Upon Hire Preferred and
- RHIA – Registered Health Information Administrator Upon Hire Preferred and
- RHIT – Registered Health Information Technician Upon Hire Preferred and
- (CPC) Certified Professional Coder Upon Hire Preferred and
- (CPC-H) Certified Professional Coder-Hospital Upon Hire Preferred and
- CCS-Certified Coding Specialist Upon Hire Preferred and
- (CCRS) Certified Cancer Registry Specialist Upon Hire Preferred and
- CSTR – Certified Specialist Trauma Registry Upon Hire Preferred
- Minimum 2 years experience healthcare, (clinical/medical/trauma) experience with a comprehensive knowledge of quality assessment Required
What you will do
- Reviews medical records/charts to accurately abstract and record registry data ensuring compliance with joint commission, state, accrediting, and other agency requirements and registry guidelines for inclusion criteria. • Maintains current awareness of requirements for data collection and ensures compliance. • Data is abstracted, entered and submitted to external entities as required. Enters data into database software designated for the activity. • Reviews reports and corrects any data entry errors, as identified. • Utilizes chart tracking module to sign in/out records from HIM department. • Reports all record deficiencies and coding errors to HIM to ensure no delays in processing and submission of data. • Keeps management informed of any issues/concerns which require intervention.
- Collects, reviews, abstracts and evaluates pertinent clinical data utilizing appropriate classification systems to document the diagnosis and extent of illness/injuries/disease and treatment. • Reviews and evaluates patient’s medical records, applying review criteria to collect data, analyze and prepare reports and present for review. • Performance of data entry in accordance with established guidelines as evidenced by random audits, edits reports, or identified trends that directly compromise the integrity of the data. • Analyses abstracted data for patient care evaluation studies, annual reports, quality improvement activities, research and education programs. Prepares related reports and analysis of findings and recommendations for review and use by hospital staff or outside agencies. Assists in follow-up as needed. • Prepares charts for death audit PI/ peer review and evaluation. Attends Morbidity and Mortality conference and prepares selected charts for presentation and case review. • Attends Trauma Multi-Disciplinary Committee Meetings and presents monthly stats. • Demonstrates the skills to complete data abstracting and reviews within departmental deadlines.
- Protects the confidentiality of patient data maintained within the registry. Releases registry information only to authorized persons, in accordance with HIPAA/compliance policies and procedures.
- Confers with and works collaboratively with medical/hospital staff, HIM department, and external data sources in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to implement registry activities; to obtain information; to answer inquiries and resolve problems regarding coding of records, collection of data and data submission.
- Provides data for research and administrative support for department operations, PI initiatives special projects and studies. • Collects and records clinical data from various databases to identify trends and to measure, evaluate and improve the level of patient care. • Compiles reports and provides statistical analysis of data. • Follows-up as needed.
- Responds to data requests for medical/nursing various reports and statistical information from other hospital departments as well as appropriate outside agencies within established departmental polices, procedures and timeframes.
- Prepares and maintains required reports, records, logs and files for operational, administrative and compliance purposes. Utilizes computer and information systems to enter format and retrieve data, generate statistics, computations, tables, charts and graphs.
- Prepares and maintains required logs, reports, records and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
- Maintains professional credentials and education necessary to keep abreast and maintain a current knowledge of clinical/theoretical principles, concepts and techniques, and current trends. Attends continuing education, staff development, and mandatory programs.
