Job Description
The Workforce Services division at Northern Virginia Community College is seeking Practical Nurse Instructor who will participate in formulation and implementation of program philosophy, mission statement, creation of program objectives, curriculum design and evaluation, through participating in faculty meetings during program planning stages and once program is established as well as following NOVA Practical Nursing curriculum once approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing. This position requires the instructor to teach on campus in the Practical Nurse lab and on-site at the designated clinical facilities affiliated with the campus course, as required by program, to engage an adult learner audience; maintaining a positive and safe learning environment; ensuring adherence to policies and procedures; and serving as a role model and advocate for student success. Other responsibilities include holding review, remediation and office hour sessions for students; attending faculty meetings, maintaining participation and performance records; collaborating with faculty and staff on curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment; providing timely and appropriate response to student, staff and partner inquiries; reporting incidents; participating in professional development and partner onboarding requirements; maintaining professional competence, certifications/licensure; and assisting in student recruitment activities.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA’s/Required Qualifications
  • Must hold a current, unrestricted Virginia license or a multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse
  • Baccalaureate degree preferably of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Must have two years of experience in direct patient care as a registered nurse prior to employment as instructor.
  • Excellent organizational skills and classroom/online management skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex subjects in a clear and engaging way.
  • Ability to work with adult learners of varying ages, and skills level.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter and innovative thinker.
Additional Considerations
  • Experience teaching hybrid training courses
  • Previous experience in the community college setting
  • Previous experience with CANVAS LMS system
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Experience in curriculum design and development.
  • Nurse Aide Train-the-trainer Certification in the last 2 years
