I know how challenging it can be to balance work and family life, especially for nurses who are parents, caregivers, and travelers. I was a critical care travel nurse for years before making the switch to remote nursing. It’s been a game-changer for me!
When I started looking specifically for HEDIS nurse abstraction jobs that offered greater flexibility, I noticed major gaps in available information about these roles and other remote nursing positions. There were also very few resources on how to get hired.
After successfully landing the *perfect* job for my needs, it became my calling to connect the dots for others who needed help finding balance during a specific season of their life.

🤐Pssst: I’ve noticed so many jobs requesting experience with Interqual or MCG/Milliman guidelines for UM/UR jobs.
If you do not have this kind of experience, you can enroll in the Case Management Institute’s Utilization Management & MCG course. After passing that course, you are eligible to take the MCG certification exam!

How am I supposed to get UR experience if no one will hire me without it? Classic Catch-22. Comment CMI to learn more.
Full transparency...you don’t always need a course (or new cert) to land a remote nursing job. I promise there are entry-level remote jobs out there that will provide on the job training! BUT this market is extremely competitive and you will likely see Utilization Review jobs posts that list MCG guidelines knowledge/experience required/preferred (MCG guidelines lines are similar to Interqual guidelines).
Now, here’s the hard part to find out: What courses will actually help?
There’s a nurse who recognized this catch-22 issue and decided to partner up with MCG Health & create a course for nurses to actually learn about utilization review (and case management)!
Case Management Institute’s courses offer you access to live nursing instructors with hands on use of the MCG software. This course is the ONLY way to get this kind of training unless you have an employer sponsor you for the MCG training.
It walks you through exactly how utilization review works, connects it to your bedside experience, AND after passing, gives you eligibility to take the MCG certification exam! Plus it’s accredited for nursing continuing education hours!
You’ll also finally understand the role well enough to write a resume that actually speaks to it, answer interview questions confidently, and be able to say, “Yes I understand MCG guidelines for Utilization Review!”

Introverts aren’t antisocial, we just prefer our couch over hospital break rooms (and actually getting to take breaks), making coffee at home vs what’s been sitting in the pot since 3am, and never having to scrape ice off the windshield before driving to work.
Tea drinkers, blanket hoarders, and professional nurse homebodies: this is your sign.

Where did I find these job titles? I just dipped into the Remote Company Directory available inside of the premium membership, selected my filter for Biotech, and looked through the closed job postings to see job title! But you can also just pop in our community and Ask me your questions too 💜
Most of the remote roles at these Biotech companies require some travel but there are few rare ones I’ve seen that don’t require travel for entry-level roles! These are usually triage/educator types of roles for nurses.
