Position Summary

Position Overview
The Visiting Instructor position is remote position responsible for providing excellent, mission-aligned teaching, including course development, delivery (theory/clinical), and assessment, while actively participating in program and curriculum improvement. This role will also include management of the competency-based curriculum aspects for the School of Nursing by being accountable for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the School of Nursing’s CBE programs, ensuring alignment with institutional, accreditation, and industry requirements through collaboration to promote student success and academic quality.

What will I do in this position?
Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

PROGRAM & CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT and MANAGEMENT

  • Develop and manage competency-based nursing programs and curriculum aligned with standards and accreditation, collaborating with faculty to define learning objectives and assessments.
  • Ensure program effectiveness and quality by monitoring outcomes, integrating best practices, and maintaining compliance and documentation.
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of School of Nursing programs and curriculum, including competency-based education (CBE) initiatives.
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT & PARTNERSHIP
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external partners (healthcare agencies, learning institutions, industry representatives, accrediting bodies) to uphold contracts, enhance program offerings, and ensure relevance and compliance.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among faculty, instructional designers, and administrative staff. Serve as the primary point of contact for CBE initiatives.
STUDENT SUPPORT & ADVISING
  • Manage the new student registration process including guidance on scheduling, degree requirements, and curriculum changes (interpreting degree audits).
  • Provide ongoing academic advising to assigned students.
  • Assess student needs for academic and personal support services, making appropriate referrals to campus partners.
TEACHING & LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS
  • Complete all teaching assignments given, working in close collaboration with other faculty members to create enriching learning experiences in a variety of educational settings with commitment to ongoing personal, professional development to maintain expertise in teaching areas.
  • Collaborate with faculty to deliver assigned teaching duties and assess student performance through Competency Based Assessments (CBAs), Competency Performance Evaluation Tools (CPETs), and Competency Performance Simulation Assessments (CPSAs) and established grading criteria.
ADMINISTRATION AND COMPLIANCE
  • Ensure the accurate processing and maintenance of all new student data and registration activities, including non-degree students in collaboration with Admissions.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for courses and student participation.
  • Adhere to reporting protocols for student incidents or serious problems.

Secondary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Participate in creation and implementation of clinically based integrated simulations in the NLC.
  • Serve on various University and Faculty Committees.
  • Collaborate with other University departments as needed.

What will it take to succeed in this position?
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing and a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, required; Doctoral Degree, preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years RN experience with demonstrated competence in clinical area of nursing
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in teaching or education, required
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or academic program management, with a focus on competency-based education, required
  • Strong knowledge of competency-based learning models, instructional design principles, and assessment methodologies, required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and support organizational change, required
  • Eligibility for a Registered Nurse license in the state of Minnesota and possession of an unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Minnesota upon assumption of duties.
  • Experience working with accrediting bodies and understanding regulatory frameworks for competency-based education, preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience collaborating with, training and teaching diverse stakeholders in a higher education environment
  • Skilled with learning management systems (LMS) and educational technology tools
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, occasionally working evenings and weekends and traveling to campus when required for training and as requested by supervisor
  • Ability to adhere to professional standards of nursing and uphold Minnesota Nurse Practice Act
  • Ability to integrate Christian worldview into classroom instruction
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and strong skill in building and sustaining relationships of trust with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner
  • Ability to remain current in the field of nursing
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Intermediate computer proficiency
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment.

Compensation Range: $58,500 – $65,000
