Summary of Job Duties:

15% – Communication/Collaboration. Implements Plan of Care (POC) using an approach that is interdisciplinary and patient and family centered. Effectively collaborates and communicates with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders. Communicates care appropriately through documentation in the medical record. Reports variances in care/ systems/ processes through the appropriate means.

15% – Education/EBP/Research/IQ. Participates in Performance Improvement, Evidence Based Practice/Research process. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Supports the integration of current evidence into nursing practices. Promotes an environment conducive to positive educational experience for all students and staff. Provides effective patient/family education/discharge planning.

15% – Leadership – Acts as a resource/support to others in the performance of duties. Demonstrates a commitment to the personal and professional development of other UAMS employees. Participates in recruitment/retention of staff. Facilitates development and implementation of nursing practice standards that are evidence-based and in compliance with ANA standards. Delegates care based on UAMS standards, legal and regulatory requirements, specific job descriptions, scope of practice and individual level of education and training.

15% – Nursing Ethics. Participates in Performance Improvement, Evidence Based Practice/Research process. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Supports the integration of current evidence into nursing practices. Promotes an environment conducive to positive educational experience for all students and staff. Provides effective patient/family education/discharge planning.

15% – Professional Practice and Development. Participates in unit/ department based organizational activities/ committees such as the Professional Nursing Organization (PNO) Demonstrates commitment to professional nursing, development, and growth. Evaluates personal performance based on professional practice standards. Uses constructive feedback from peers and supervisors to improve practice and performance. Maintains clinical competencies specific to area of practice/ responsibility

25% – Nursing Process. Delivers nursing care according to standards as defined by UAMS, American Nurses Association (ANA), AR State Board of Nursing (ASBN) and those set forth by nursing specialty organizations. Collects and documents assessment data from patients and/or others per UAMS standard. Develops patient’s Plan of Care (POC) per department/unit standards utilizing assessment data. Evaluates the progress of patients toward attainment of desired outcomes. Administers medication following department/unit standards and Nurse Practice Act. Verifies and evaluates care delivered to ensure it is consistent with patient and family centered care principles, practice standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications (Essential for the job – the applicant must possess at the time of hire):

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, or Diploma RN, with Major: Registered Nurse.

  • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience

  • Licenses, certificates, or registration:

  • Valid Registered Nursing License

  • Current BLS

  • Current ACLS

Preferred Qualifications (Non-essential for the job –the applicant may possess at the time of hire):

  • Knowledge or experience in PCMH desired.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Collects and documents assessment data (vitals, medical history, symptoms) from patients; develop individualized Plans of Care (POC) per departmental/unit standards.

  • Triages patients (in person or by phone), assess and monitor for side effects of radiation therapy, evaluate progress toward treatment goals, and intervene as needed

  • Administers medications per physician orders and standards, ensure care delivered is consistent with regulatory and practice standards

  • Provides education about radiation treatments, potential side‐effects, follow‐up care; plan and facilitate transitions of care and discharge when applicable

  • Coordinates referrals, facilitate appointments, follow‑ups, coordinate transitions between inpatient/outpatient settings, assist with prescription/refills

  • Works with providers, fellows, other staff; communicate via documentation; report variances; participate in evidence‑based practice, performance improvement, and conform to regulatory requirements.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.
