Job Title: HEDIS/STAR Medical Record Abstractor

Job Type: Contract

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Location: Remote

Pay: $40.00/hourly


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced HEDIS/STAR Medical Record Abstractor to support our clinical quality operations. This role is responsible for reviewing, abstracting, and validating medical record data in alignment with HEDIS® and STAR program requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate multiple documentation systems with accuracy and efficiency.


Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Associate degree (minimum).
  • Two or more years of HEDIS®/STAR experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in data analysis and/or quality chart reviews.
  • Ability to review data, identify gaps, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and database applications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and abstract medical record data into required applications.
  • Support chart chase activities by requesting and obtaining necessary records.
  • Perform primary source verification of abstracted data for accuracy.
  • Conduct over‑reads of completed abstractions/verification.
  • Analyze chart data for data integrity and identify gaps or deficits.
  • Document findings clearly and provide recommended improvements.
  • Deliver education and feedback to abstractors and primary source verifiers.
  • Navigate various documentation platforms to retrieve HEDIS/STAR‑relevant medical record components.
  • Support communication between market and corporate departments.
  • Assist with member outreach efforts as needed within the HAO organization.
  • Maintain current knowledge of HEDIS®/STARs standards and guidelines.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
