Job Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a licensed registered nurse that has graduate preparation (master’s or doctorate) in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist. The CNS provides expert comprehensive nursing care directly to patients, supports nursing professional development, nursing practice and serves as a leader in redesigning systems to improve access, quality, and safety in a cost-effective manner. The CNS is a clinical expert in the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patients experiencing various health conditions dependent on the specialty. The CNS designs and strategically implements population-based programs to enhance patient and family outcomes. The CNS functions autonomously and works in collaboration with Medical College of Wisconsin physicians in the department(s) to optimize the care of the specific population being served. Responsibilities include: clinical practice, program design/development, consultation, leadership, education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As an APRN, the CNS improves patient care by putting the best evidence and innovations into practice while solving challenging patient care issues and monitoring patient outcomes for clinical effectiveness.

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

Previous experience as an Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred. Experience with specialty population is preferred.

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:

Master’s or DNP degree in Nursing from a CNS accredited program is required.

SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:

Expertise in a specialty; excellent verbal and written skills. Effective project management skills also preferred.

LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:

Licensure to practice nursing in Wisconsin; 2) Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) must be obtained within 1 year of employment. Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist required within 1 year of employment; American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days. Medicaid and Medicare (PECOS) enrollment may be required if needed with credentials & privileges.
