About the job

The remote Medical Evidence Specialist is an RN working directly with Veterans. The Medical Evidence Specialist team member will review medical symptoms and service-connected disabilities reported by the Veteran, develop a strategy plan, and communicate this plan with the Veteran client. The team member will evaluate the symptoms experienced by the Veteran and develop an accurate statement reflecting their level of disability as defined by the 38CFR Schedule of Ratings. They must identify what the Veteran client will medically qualify for and assess the value or expected rating during the conversation. They will work closely with designated team members to answer questions about the case and provide clear direction for evidence development. Peer reviewing cases may be needed in addition to normal caseload.


This role will have a 4/10 work schedule: Monday, Wednesday – Friday, 9am – 8pm EST. Tuesday will be off.

During the training period, or the initial 5 weeks, the schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm EST.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing medical records to formulate a strategy as needed.
  • Reviewing lay evidence to determine if documentation supports the strategy.
  • Reviewing Intake Screener tool to determine strategy.
  • Identifying the VA disability that meets the VA requirements.
  • Assessing potential value of medical evidence strategy.
  • Entering medical evidence strategy in Zoho CRM.
  • Responding to emails from Veterans and staff.
  • Exercising discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.
  • Complying with and upholding HIPPA guidelines.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as a resource for strategy related questions.


Qualifications

  • Authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • Associate degree in Nursing or combination of education and experience.
  • Current License in Nursing required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in client relations.
  • Minimum 1 year phone-based customer service required.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficient in conversational English.
  • Thorough knowledge of grammar, document creation, and APA format techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Able to navigate complex tasks with objectives and resolutions.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment such as computer, printer, copy machine and scanner.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented, diligent, and flexible.
  • Ability to focus on task completion with little direction or need for supervisory follow up.
  • Actively embraces and makes use of collaborative problem solving, diverse viewpoints, and unique skillsets.
  • The ability to work during eastern daylight savings time working hours.
