Position Overview: Aleknagik Technology, LLC is seeking a qualified Trauma Registry Nurse Abstractor to provide critical support to the Joint Trauma System (JTS) under the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at the Department of Defense Center of Excellence for Trauma. This position is fully remote and requires a detail-oriented professional capable of accurately collecting, abstracting, coding, and verifying trauma-related clinical data in accordance with established DoD and DHA protocols.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect and abstract comprehensive patient care data for the Trauma Registry, ensuring accuracy and completeness across all trajectories of care. Enter and maintain data in the Registry in a timely manner.
- Perform coding of injuries, procedures, and causes of injuries using standard medical record references, including ICD-9/10 codes. Assign AIS and ICD-9/10-CM diagnoses and complete ISS and other trauma score calculations for an average of 3–6 patient charts per week, maintaining a minimum 90% accuracy rate.
- Apply Abstracting Business Rules as outlined in the established data abstraction resources to ensure standardized and compliant data entry.
- Provide expert consultation and education to Joint Trauma System personnel, Registry staff, and clinical subject matter experts (SMEs) regarding trauma abstraction, coding, and registry processes.
- Develop and deliver training programs for both new and current employees focused on clinical abstraction, coding, and business rules.
- Conduct quality assurance evaluations to verify the clinical accuracy of Registry data at all Roles of Care, maintaining a 90% accuracy rate as directed. Perform Registry consent procedures as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing.
- Active United States Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Documentation of immunizations including: TB Test, Hepatitis B vaccine (or titer/wavier), Tetanus booster within the last 5 years, and HIV titer.
